Why We Play
Built by a Tampa kid, for Tampa kids.
Mychal Givens grew up in Tampa and starred at Plant High School before the Baltimore Orioles drafted him in 2009. He made the leap from shortstop to the mound and spent nearly a decade pitching in the majors, for the Orioles, Rockies, Reds, Cubs and Mets.
He never stopped calling Tampa home. In 2016, while still pitching for Baltimore, he started the Givens Back Foundation to give Tampa kids the coaching, mentors and opportunities that helped him get there. Every program still runs in the neighborhoods that raised him.

MLK Weekend
We chose this weekend on purpose.
MLK Day is a national day of service. We spend the weekend raising a full year of support for Tampa kids.
Who we play for
Mychal gives back to the Tampa neighborhoods that shaped him, offering kids coaching, mentorship, and a Christmas morning that might not happen without The Givens Back Foundation.

Our youth programs stay engaged year-round, connecting with young people through education, community events, and mentorship.
Who we celebrate
The Mychal Givens Citizen of Service Award celebrates a community member who leads with heart. Our honoree reflects Mychal’s commitment to Tampa’s youth, using their time, talent, and voice to create opportunities for the next generation.

Where It Goes
Our programs.
Inner City Baseball of Tampa
Year-round coaching, equipment and field time for kids in Tampa’s inner-city neighborhoods. Kids get mentors who show up on and off the field, the same kind of support that helped Mychal reach the big leagues.
Holiday Gifting Drive
Every December, with the City of Tampa Recreation Centers, we give local families a real Christmas morning: gifts from each child’s own wish list, a visit from Santa and a holiday celebration.
Her First Round
A youth golf program run through the Givens Back Foundation with The Fairway Girls. We partner with Tampa Bay schools, rec leagues, YMCAs and Boys & Girls Clubs to reach girls who would never otherwise get access to golf, then scholarship their lessons, equipment and course time. We believe that getting young girls access to golf opens up their access to networks that will change their careers.

Home of the PGA TOUR’s Valspar Championship
Every March, the best players in the world take on Copperhead at Innisbrook Resort. On MLK Day, Copperhead is yours, with a celebrity in your group and a weekend built around giving back. Your group plays the same holes, with lodging, spa and dining on-site and Tampa International just 25 minutes away.
